Loved this book ,which was originally loaned to me by a friend. I had to go out and buy my own copy so I could keep referencing back to it. Gave me much insight into myself and my life
Here's The Truth Thing About "The Secret" That Everyone Needs To Know November 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
First things first. Although it is an uplifting book (the video is even better) it is basically a marketing vehicle for the speakers in the video. If you research it - you will find that, while it may have been Rhonda Byrne's brainchild - The organization behind the books, DVD's, and the website actually belong to about a dozen motivational speakers all of which are featured in the DVD as speakers. of course Ms. Byrne is one of them.
This is not purely a criticm. The DVD and book are very good at INTRODUCING the viewer/reader to the basics of "Law of Attraction". However, unfortunately, the reader will gain little more than motivation from this introduction that they can use.
"The Secret" accomplishes what it was seemingly designed to truly do. It leads people to the speakers who are featured on the video where you can purchase coursework from them. Jack Canfield is one of the featured speakers and he has been a motivational speaker that has touted Law of Attraction for years. It would seem that all of these speakers (again, about a dozen or more) came together, formed a partnership along with Rhonda Byrne and they put out a brilliant bit of advertising that they did not need to pay for since we all purchased the book and DVD's from them. It really was marketing genius at it's best.
In closing, yes, I do believe that the Law of Attraction is valid. It is not a new idea. It's been around for ages by different names. Ms. Byrne may exagerate it's origins but the basic concept is indeed very old and you will find it paraphrased in Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism etc. So again, yes, I believe it is valid. And I believe these "Secret gurus" can and are willing to teach it to you. In fact their complete courses are very affordable. They range from $15 to $120 which is not enough to kill anyone's budget. And the courses are complete. The Secret - however, is not even close to complete. All it is going to do is exactly what it was designed to do - make you purchase materials from one of the speakers on the DVD.
My advice - skip "The Secret". Go online to get a list of the speakers in The Secret (for free). Then go to their sites (or even Amazon for most of them) and pick up a REAL complete course. You can even download the audio forms of some courses on iTunes.
the secret November 23, 2008 I think the book is okay for those looking for positive reinforcement, but i dont think you have to read it to know "the secret" ie the fact that whatever you reflect will be attracted to you, so goes for positive and negative thinking as well. The trick is, how to stop putting yourself down, and stop deprieving of all the things you deserve. Its easy to think positive in good times tho, but what about when things go wrong? I dont think a book can tell you that, what u need is to have faith within. So what youre really looking for wont find in a book, but in yourself. This book wont make u happy, you will. Thats the real secret.

An inspiring, self-help approach to developing a positive outlook on life. The Secret is a quick read that will leave many readers with an upbeat perspective. On the other hand, the premise is a pop-culture, feel-good approach that, long-term, will do more to enrich the authors and publisher than anything else.
