Nicely done December 19, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Agree with all of the positive comments. The speaker has a lovely, gentle Scottish lilt and a very calming "way with him".
It would be nice to have two versions of the guided breathing meditation, the 2nd one having a little less coaching, but that is about the only criticism I would have.
I still haven't heard the whole CD, I keep falling asleep November 9, 2006 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I purchased 3 meditation CD's at a time when I was going through some emotional turmoil. I was hoping to find one which would help me drift off to sleep. This one did the trick, I have had the cd for 2 months, I listen to it every night and still haven't heard it right to the end because I am fast asleep after the first 10 minutes. The voice is soothing and the words meaningful. It definately worked for me.
Relaxing, but don't expect more September 5, 2006 81 out of 82 found this review helpful
For folks who want to learn to truly meditate, there are better "tools", such as Sharon Salzberg's (Co-Founder of Insight Meditation Society) Insight Meditation: A Step by Step Course, which has two very good CD's and an excellent instruction manual. It's worth the price just for the CD's though. However, this is not to take anything away from a very sincere, and kind effort on the part of Bodhipaksa on this CD. For experienced meditators, you will find far too much voice and not enough silence. The CD is more of a hypnotic, relaxation inducing session (akin to hypnotherapy) with a lot of "suggestion" in terms of what you should experience or feel, and little or no "coaching" in awareness. This is certainly not a knock on the sincerity of the narrator and there is much benefit to be gained from this CD. It's more a question of skill level and what you wish from a meditation CD. If you simply want someone to guide you in relaxation while you suspend your attentive faculties, this works great. And, that is what I want at times! However, once you experience the awareness and insight aspects of meditation, you will actually see deep relaxation/drowsiness as a hindrance. (I know that is hard to believe, but true!) So, if you wish to become more skilled in Metta and/or Insight (Vipassana) meditation, then your safest and best bet is to seek out folks associated with the Insight Meditation Society or S.I. Goenka's network. Both of these organizations are highly successful, have long histories, have excellent reputations, and are strongly rooted in a long tradition. May you be happy and at ease.
A good way to relax at bedtime August 19, 2006 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought this CD because I was having trouble falling asleep--and sometimes staying asleep. This CD immediately relaxes me and guides me into a calm, deep sleep.
Sleep aid may not be the intention of the product, but that's what it does for me!
Very Good August 14, 2006 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
Although I haven't listened to the CD in full, I can tell you that this guy is very good, and I will actually listen to this one again, and again....especially since I just quit smoking! Good voice, techniques, very therapeutic.
