5 out of 5 stars Practical; reusable   July 10, 2006

This book is worth owning. After an initial read, I've come back to it for reference. The chapters address common issues that are often left out of other books on this topic, like specific counseling issues. You really get the sense that the authors practice the things they write about.

5 out of 5 stars Toolkit for the Disciplemaker, Cure for Stagnant Christianity   July 10, 2006

Today's church is in dire need of caring, serving relationships through which God produces mature believers and trains servant leaders! This easy-to-read book equips believers with the tools to act on the self-sacrificial ministry to which God is calling them.

My Christian journey has been made alive by the biblical, practical principles set forth by this book. Many sincere pastors have verbally espoused authentic, fruitbearing relationships within the body of Christ, but still haven't seen their sheep transformed from timid "hearers" to devoted, intentional "doers." Indeed, it may be too late to win over many long-time attendees to becoming healthy, active members of Christ's body. Still other souls yearn to live out their role in the body of Christ but don't know how to start. They desire to know one another and to be known, yet fail to initiate such intimacy.

From the excited new convert to the senior pastor, every reader will see his ministry enlivened by the principles in this book and his faith inspired by the authors' real-life experiences. Far from a gimmick, the book conveys the essence of New Testament-style ministry and imparts the wisdom of richly experienced and effective workers for God. Every evangelist, church-goer, pastor, music minister, theologian, small group leader, and young believer should read this book!

5 out of 5 stars This book is so needed!!!   July 10, 2006

I've read plenty of books that talk about why we should disciple, books that cast a powerful vision, and kindle a burning fire to be used by God in this way. But I have always wished there were more out there that gets into the practical aspects of HOW to disciple. This book is as helpful and practical as it gets. I've trained under Dennis, and Jesse for years and still I need to read and re-read this book, because discipleship is such a complex task, it's easy to let a lot of things fall through the cracks. This book is an excellent foundation for a beginning discipler, and a supreme refresher/reference manual for those who have been at it for years.

5 out of 5 stars Could be called, "Christian Discipling For Dumbies"   July 10, 2006

If they made a book called Christian Discipling for Dumbies, they would just change the cover of this book. A no-nonsense approach to creating a self-replicating church and disciples of Christ. This book has been impactful in my own personal ministry. The Lord has given the two authors tremendous insight in what true, authentic christian ministry looks like. If you read this book, you will be challenged and inspired to cultivate a richer ministry similar in comparison to what was experienced by the believers in the New Testament.
