Takes Mass to the next level April 9, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
If Mass was two-dimensional before, it will be three-dimensional after reading this book. I didn't get it all in the first read. After reading this once, I went on to read The Mass of the Early Christians, by Mike Aquilina, which has a mind-blowing Introduction written by Scott Hahn. The two combined were able to stretch my mind enough to understand the Lamb's Supper the second time I read it. The experience has changed my life.
Excellent March 30, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I am grateful for the author's patience in gaining understanding of the Book of Rev. I made connections I might not have made otherwise. I like books that pack a large amount of information in a relatively short span, and this book did not disappoint. Some sections, i.e. his teachings on the Mass, may not be new to Catholics, but in the end they may take on more meaning. The modular format of the book made it easy for me to skip around which I also liked. I don't know if I can properly express how much I got out of this book. It's not just what the author writes but where his writing takes you. In the end I am grateful for the discoveries I made while reading this book.
I guess I'm in the minority December 1, 2005 5 out of 23 found this review helpful
I found The Lamb's Supper merely interesting, and that would not compel me to recommend it to anyone looking for a book to strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ. If a person wants to know exactly where the parts of the Mass are backed up by Scripture, excellent book. Being Catholic, maybe I expected something more than what had been presented in religion class over the years. The book may be more meaningful to those of other denominations. The book had me saying "Oh I didn't know that" to many of the gee whiz correlations with Revelations. It reads like a cathechism and lacks the personal draw that good books of faith have, the draw that brings reflection and the desire to know Jesus Christ more closely. Very dry reading material compared to Stanley or Swindoll.
theology for the intellect and the heart brings home the meaning of the mass and the book of revelation November 30, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Once again, Scott Hahn drives home what theology should be all about... something that not only makes us understand, but more than that, something that brings us closer to God. In this book, he clearly shows that the Scripture, Tradition and the Early Fathers are all in agreement that the Mass and the Book of Revelation bring us the same reality -- the Lamb's Supper! Even though it serves as an overview of the Mass, the first part of the book by itself is enough to give the reader a clearer understanding of the Mass, taking us through the parts of it, its history and development and how it is rooted in the Bible. The latter part discusses the relationship of the Mass to the Book of Revelation. Suddenly, you will find yourself surprised at the evident parallelisms most Bible readers miss. From this, it becomes very clear that the Book of Revelation is not only about the end days, but more importantly also a book that makes us understand how we participate in God's banquet for us here on earth. In the end, you'll find yourself seeing Mass in a different way. It will never be the same again for you. To sum it up, you'll be able to go beyond its surface -- "So what if it's boring, if I don't like this or that? This is God's Mass and there are greater realities involved far, far greater than those trivial things." What are those realities you shouldn't live without? Find out by reading this book.
