Product Description
Daily prayers based on the spiritual riches of the ancient Celtic tradition.

This lavishly illustrated daily prayer book draws on the great spiritual insights and wisdom of the Celtic church, offering prayers and Scripture readings for every morning and evening of the week.

Each day Celtic Benediction invites readers to meditate on a different aspect of the creation story from Genesis. On Sunday the theme is light. In the morning, the prayers and readings lead us to seek the light of the life of God in all his creatures. At night, we meditate on the light that no darkness can overcome as we bring the world and its needs to God. And so on through each day of the week: water, the fruitful earth, the animal world, humanity, playful rest, and all that God has made draw us into intimate prayer. Related Scripture readings are also given for each day of the year, making this a book to use constantly.

Illustrated throughout with colored panels from the Lindisfarne Gospels, Celtic Benediction offers contemporary Christians a unique devotional experience to treasure for a lifetime.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful book of Celtic prayers   October 30, 2008
I was given a copy of this book several years ago and enjoyed it in personal prayer. When our Wed. morning prayer service became more contemplative this summer, I suggested that we try Celtic Benediction. The whole group has enjoyed the change-up from the standard Morning Prayer found in the Book of Common Prayer. Thanks, Phillip, for a wonderful gift!

5 out of 5 stars Celtic Benediction: Morning and Night Prayer   October 18, 2008
This book is part of my daily prayer... often read during my subway ride to work, where I "Be still and aware of God within and all around".
The words sink into me over time, and I believe have been written in a way that reveals God whenever these words are spoken.

5 out of 5 stars Great travel prayerbook   February 17, 2008
This is a great book to bring with you when you travel. It is small and yet rich. The rhythm of morning and night prayer helps to keep you centered and focused in the midst of the chaos that post 911 travel has become.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Introduction   August 24, 2007
this beautiful little book is a "daily office" with a very simple order for morning, mid-day, and evening prayer. The prayers composed by J. Phillip Newell are beautiful and inspiring, as well as a good introduction to Celtic Christian Spirituality. The art work is also wonderful.

Sometimes just reading a beautifully worded prayer helps to jump start your own prayer life. Consider this short collection to be the mother of all Celtic Prayer jump starters.

Lyrical and lovely!
