Born with the face of an angel, Marget Barnardsen is blessed. Her father is a knight, and now she is to be married to the Earl of Lytham. Her destiny is guaranteed ... at least, it would seem so. But when her introduction to court goes awry and Queen Elizabeth despises her, Marget fears she's lost her husband forever. Desperate to win him back, she'll do whatever it takes to discover how she failed and capture again the love of a man bound to the queen.

4 out of 5 stars Powerful   November 16, 2008
This book is truly unique. It's written from his and her perspective, both in first person, and it's a love story not a romance. As for the history--it's all news to me. The three words I would use to describe A Constant Heart are: unexpected, haunting, and powerful.

4 out of 5 stars A Mixed Review   November 10, 2008
This really was an incredible book but I do agree with a previous reviewer who gave it a mixed review. The historical aspect was absolutely fascinating. I learned so much about the Elizabethan time period. For that, I would give it a 10, if possible.

I too was confused by the double first person. It was hard to keep up with, at times. The storyline was very well done and very interesting but for some reason, seemed to lack depth.

All this said, I would definitly reccommend this to a friend!

5 out of 5 stars Great Historical with a twist of Romance   November 7, 2008
A Constant Heart looks at the life of a young bride during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and her experience at court. Marget and Lytham, newly weds, struggle to obtain and hold the Queens favor. The problem is the two fall in love and love is not allowed unless it is toward the Queen. The novel is written in first person but the reader has to jump between Lytham's head and Marget's. In the beginning I had difficulty following who was telling the story but as the story progressed and I fell in love with the characters the transition became easier. Readers who love historical fiction will appreciate the detail that Siri Mitchell has poored into this novel. I was fascinated by the natural way she wove historical details into the novel.

The theme that runs throughout this novel is beauty. I was amazed at what women did to themselves to create a beautiful image based on societies definition. The facial creams and lotions they used were filled with Mercury and lead. This novel made me think about how often we as women search for beauty in a bottle. A Constant Heart is a beautifully told story about love and the struggles placed on marriage. Siri also does an excellent job of providing more information on her [...]

5 out of 5 stars Another great read!!   November 4, 2008
I have read her other books; based on reviews I've seen on Amazon.com. I really enjoy her books considering I'm not always a fan of 1st person ficton. I have to say that I agree with the other reviews; that she definately pulls you into the story and makes it very interesting! I look forward to more from Ms. Mitchell!

5 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Read!   November 2, 2008
Siri Mitchell has written "The Other Boleyn Girl" without the raunch. It is a most excellent, can't-put-it-down, read. Siri just gets better and better.
