Praying the Names of God October 15, 2008 This book causes one to be in awe of God the Father and all that He is to the Christian. I read it on my own and recently purchased 10 copies to use at a women's retreat sponsored by our church. It will be studied by women in groups of 4 or 5. Hopefully, they will become closer to God by knowing Him better and leave the retreat bound together by what this book has to offer.
knowledgable July 1, 2008 Just what we all need for a blessed day. Inspirational and conforting. I highly recommand it to all who feels the need to start the day with beautiful and inspirational devotions!
Good January 5, 2008 It can be a little repetitive, but otherwise I really liked it. I read it in less than two weeks. I bought it as a Christmas present for my dad and my sister. I bought Praying the names of Jesus for my mom. I haven't read it yet but I will soon. Worth the money. A good read.
Review pages 289-304 before you purchase August 16, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I absolutely love this book, however, when I got to page 289, I found that 2 chapters of The Purpose Driven Life had been inserted into the book - omitting the same number of pages from Praying the Names. It cuts off on Thursday, and doesn't pick up until 1 chapter later - on Monday. 15 pages total are missing.
When you receive your copy, check those pages first and return it for a correct version.
Informative and transforming May 14, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Most believers won't study Hebrew or intense theology of the Old Testament. While this book cannot replace that type of formal education, it is a glimpse into the original language of our scriptures. So, it's valuable for us to read, and a gift to understand.
In a beautifully written devotional, Ann Spangler defines the different names used to reference God throughout scripture. Understanding these names & descriptions cannot help but enrich our personal study of scripture, our prayers, and application in our daily lives. While primarily intended as a guide for daily prayer, this book is also a nice reference - and supplement - to scripture studies. In understanding each name, we receive a better (perhaps new) view of our God.
I appreciated the chance to learn titles that have been used to address and refer to God throughout history. I think you will find, like I have, that a new perspective of the One we worship can transform our own prayer, understanding, and outlook.
