Mysteries of Light November 13, 2005
This Booklet, I say that for it is only 34 pages long and should be a pamphlet, shows how Pope John Paul II desired to make the Rosary more fully reflect the Life of Christ. The pope added a new set of five prayer themes called the Mysteries of Light or the "luminous mysteries."
Pope John Paul II wanted to have the rosary reflect "a compendium of the Gospel". The pope wanted to include the mysteries of Christ's public ministry. The new mysteries focus on Jesus' baptism in the Jordan, his self-manifestation at the wedding of Cana, his proclamation of the Kingdom of God, with his call to conversion, his Transfiguration, and his institution of the Eucharist as the sacramental expression of the Paschal Mystery. These new mysteries are not a mandatory addition.
The book then goes into detail on how to pray the complete twenty decades Rosary of Pope John Paul II. Included are appropriate biblical passages that relate to each of the mysteries that you can read after you have announced the mystery.
So if you wish to pray the twenty-decade Rosary, this is a fantastic reference.
