Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Oscar Arnulfo Romero spoke out on behalf of his suffering people. More than ten years after an assassin's bullet found its mark, the archbishop's message of concern for the poor continues to reverberate throughout the world and throughout the Church. This translation brings to the English-speaking world the authentic voice of the man "already acclaimed by many as St. Romero of the Americas."

5 out of 5 stars THE PRIVATE RECORDED DIARIES OF THIS SAINT AND MARTYR'S LAST FEW YEARS   March 25, 2007
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

This over five hundred page book published twenty years ago by the great Saint Anthony Messenger Catholic Publishing House courageously and comprehensively presents the transcrition and translation of the last few years of this great Catholic saint's private diary, making generously possible for us to perceive the sanctity and self-sacrificing spirituality of Archbishop Oscar A. Romero, prophet and martyr for our Faith.

Today, twenty seven years after his assassination at Mass in the moments after his final sermon, we need now more than ever his strengthening words of consolation and of prophecy, of peace and of justice, firmly founded in Catholic theology and the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

This publication includes a welcome Forward by Father Thomas Quigley of the US CAtholic COnference's office of Latin America Affairs, which gives the social and political context of the diary, as well as the provenance of the tapes by which this transcription evolved. The Reverend Father James BRockman, SJ, former editor of the Catholic journal America and the editor-translator of The Violence of Love, submits a brief biographical introduction which includes the theological context of the Archbishop within salvation history. This book 27 years later remains a prophetic and relevant record important for us to study for an understanding and strengthening of our Faith and Witness as Catholic followers of Jesus Christ. Important for each and every American Catholic to contemplate.
